The answer to a question I asked for years arrived in Blair a few weeks ago. The answer is “Amigos.” The question is, “What restaurant has great food and is unique to the Omaha area?” It’s actually more true that Amigos is a Nebraska staple, but around the Omaha metro they are a favorite for sure.
So, when I heard there was an Amigos food truck in Blair I was excited. Because… And, hold on to your overalls… Because…
I never ate at Amigos in the 29 total years of my life spent in Nebraska.
That changed three times in three weeks, and after this review I hope you head to the Amigos food truck in Blair – across from the Pizza Hut, and in the parking lot of the Shell Speedee Mart / Power Wash. Moussa (Manager), and Carmen (Cook) will be there from 11AM til 7PM.
My entire family ordered different items. Our favorites are the Crisp Meat Burrito and Enchilada Dinners. The Taco Salad is also good. I should highlight just how good the Crisp Meat Burrito is: The balance between the crisp (outside) and the soft meat (inside) is perfect. You’ll want to get these today (Tuesday), FYI, because they are ON SALE Tuesdays at only $3 each. When you order, make sure to get some of their red sauce, and thank me later.
If you eat at Amigos in Omaha you know their menu. It would be a tough to bring everything to Blair, which is why Jasmine Vogelpohl (Amigos Catering) says they chose their top sellers and fan favorites for Blair.
Speaking of favorites, the formula of Amigos is hot, fresh, seasoned food made from homemade recipes. I’m not sure what the “official” term for their food is, so I’ll call them Neb-Mex: If there is a taste meter with full-on Mexican on one side, and a midwestern taste preference on the other, Amigos hits the center of that dial. Pretty astonishing, really, the way they create flavors that give you what you want with some of what you didn’t know you needed on top.
Blair has lately been spoiled with an influx of food trucks. From bbq, Italian, to now most recently Mexican, there is certainly something for everyone. Today I was pleasantly surprised to see the Amigos/King food truck located across from Pizza Hut. It was shortly after 12 when I pulled up and surprisingly was first in line. The food truck has several different options crispy burritos, nachos, enchilada plates, even grilled cheese Frenchees. I quickly decided that the loaded nacho plate was going to be my choice. My order was taken in a cheerful manner and I didn’t have to wait long to receive a piping hot order of deliciousness! The container was layered with fresh, crunchy tortilla chips. Piled on top was seasoned ground beef, guacamole, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, black olives, and sour cream. I decided to have them add some extra cheese sauce on top. There is plenty of food to feed at least two people. An excellent meal at an even more affordable price, if you feel like treating your taste buds Amigos food truck is the place to go!!Tara Camron, BlairToday Reader
Now, the best part for me is the way Amigos achieves the flavor profiles of their dishes with the textures I like. The enchiladas are soft to the tooth, the meat is as well, and the cheeses are too. I am a big fan of the “Mexican” flavors and food choices, and really appreciate when what hits my tongue is put together firm enough to cut, and soft enough to chew.
I’m lazy that way, but thanks to Amigos in Blair I get the best of both worlds.
Here’s the thing, I never ate at Amigos in Omaha. So, if all this sounds a bit like a kid who moved to Omaha and saw snow for the first time, well, it’s because that’s me. If you are an Amigos fan already, today will make a great day for you to head to their food truck and pick up some Crisp Meat Burritos and enjoy what you already knew was good.
