The story of Amigos, an eclectic fusion of Mexican and American cuisine, began in 1980 in Lincoln, Nebraska. From its humble beginnings, it has expanded into a chain of restaurants and, most recently, a vibrant food truck operation in Blair, Nebraska. The evolution of this beloved local brand resonates with its steadfast commitment to quality food, exceptional service, and community engagement.
A key player in Amigos success story is Jasmine Vogelpohl, the Catering Manager for Amigos. “The food truck carries on the Amigos vision by providing the extra step in our value-added dining experience,” Vogelpohl explains, “We bring our quality food and exceptional service to guests that may not otherwise get to experience our brand.”
The brand differentiates itself from other Tex-Mex eateries through a unique friend-centric approach. Vogelpohl elaborates, “We separate ourselves from other Tex-Mex restaurants by being friends with our guests. Not only do we strive to serve high-quality food by preparing our items from scratch every day, but we serve our guests in convenient ways to assure the best experiences.”
This unique approach is embodied by the Blair food truck, which makes the Amigos experience accessible to areas that might otherwise be out of reach. It echoes the company’s commitment to friendliness and service by bringing the vibrant energy of Amigos and fresh food to new communities.
Community involvement forms a core aspect of Amigos brand values. Vogelpohl notes, “We love being part of our communities. We have sponsored fundraising events with a variety of non-profits and are active in a variety of business associations and community chambers.” The food truck augments these efforts by allowing Amigos to participate in multiple communities where they don’t have a brick-and-mortar presence.
As for the dining experience, Vogelpohl says, “Our mission is to offer friendliness, a caring attitude, and a one-to-one relationship with our guests. We greet guests with warm smiles and learn their names. Our name, Amigos, is a testament to how we treat our guests – as friends.”
Maintaining consistency across all locations, including the Blair food truck, is crucial to Amigos. “In both our in-house operations and off-premise services, we follow strict measures to ensure a consistent product,” Vogelpohl adds. Despite the food truck’s limited menu, the team takes pride in serving signature dishes and fan favorites, with the menu always evolving based on customer feedback.
Feedback is an integral part of Amigos operations, enabling the team to constantly enhance its offerings. “Being a local business, we have a direct line of communication with our guests. We value their input and incorporate their unique views and suggestions. We rely strongly on feedback from guests about what they want us to offer!” Vogelpohl shares.
Operating a food truck alongside brick-and-mortar restaurants poses unique challenges and opportunities. Vogelpohl explains, “Learning the unique set of rules that dictate each unique area of business can be challenging. However, this model allows us to connect with our guests in new ways and serve those who otherwise would not be able to experience our services.”
The food truck’s presence in Blair is in its nascent stages but already building community relationships. “The Power Wash Car Wash has been fantastic in helping us settle in Blair. We’re excited about the new opportunities that will arise as we begin to build new partnerships,” Vogelpohl enthuses.
As for the future, Amigos plans more growth and innovation. “We plan more food trucks for the surrounding areas, partnerships with local grocery stores, and convenience stores. Be on the lookout for new brick and mortar locations in the future!” Vogelpohl shares with anticipation.
Reviews from locals are a testament to the Amigos experience. As one testimonial from Omaha reads, “Amigos is a perfect place for families and anyone who loves great Tex-Mex food. It’s also wonderful to see them taking their delicious offerings on the road with the food truck in Blair!”
Amigos isn’t just a restaurant chain and a food truck; it’s a community member, a friend. The story of Amigos is one of continuous growth, adaptation, and community involvement, shaped by the values of friendship and service. With Vogelpohl at the helm of the Blair food truck, and with the support of the community, Amigos future looks bright and flavorful.
